Health Promotion Consultant, Full–Time Temporary Associate
Position: Health Promotion Consultant – Region 4 North East Ohio

The Health Promotion Consultant will be assigned a region to complete the key responsibilities during the grant term through December 31, 2015. Based on demand, consultants might work outside of their assigned region. A minimum of 80% of time will be spent providing directed training to targeted early childhood professionals, with up to 20% of time to be dedicated developing curricula and materials, provide other forms of technical assistance, documenting activities and other key responsibilities. Region 4 includes the following counties: Medina, Mahoning, Portage, Trumbull and Stark.
Summary of Key Responsibilities:
Professional Development (PD)
- Use multiple methods of delivery to provide professional development (training) to target population.
- Coordinate with other members of regional PD team as identified by Ohio Department of Health and/or OCCRRA.
- Participate in train–the–trainer events, professional development opportunities and cross–training with other PD networks.
- Serve as content expert in the development of health–related PD as directed by OCCRRA.
- Utilize evidence–based tools and standardized PD materials to address health needs of young children including, but not limited to:
a. The new Early Learning and Development Standards, particularly Physical Well–being and Motor Development.
b. Formative and Comprehensive Assessment materials.
c. Screenings, and
d. Special topics, such as asthma, allergies, environmental health, physical activity, sleep needs, caring for children with special needs.
- Participate in Comprehensive Professional Development System (CPDS) regional conferences in the Fall of 2014 and 2015.
- Use multiple methods of delivery to provide professional development (technical assistance) to target population.
- Make referrals to appropriate agencies as needed.
- Serve as content expert in the development of health–related materials used for technical assistance.
- Utilize rating scales and/or other tools to evaluate health and safety in early childhood settings.
- Provide outreach to market services using multi–delivery methods throughout assigned region.
- Track activities and enter data into designated system.
- Organize, maintain and submit required documentation.
- Registered nurse, licensed/registered dietician, health educator or comparable related field.
- Must have a minimum of a bachelor's degree in the health–related field.
- Knowledge of adult learning styles and strategies.
- Knowledge of early learning environments, and
- Ability to work with diverse populations, including programs serving English Language Learners and children with disabilities.
- Accessibility to early childhood programs during non–peak hours for training and technical assistance.
Conditions of Work:
- 40 hours/week (1 FTE)
- Flexible hours, occasional evenings & weekend hours & overnight travel.
