Child
Care Health and Nutrition Consultants Available
The Ohio Child Care
Resource & Referral Association (OCCRRA), in partnership with the
Ohio Department of Health, has developed a program to support child care
providers, both center-based and family child care, with health and
safety issues. Healthy Child Care Ohio is a collaborative effort of
health care professionals, child care providers and families working in
partnership to improve the health of children in child care settings. It
is a national effort of the Healthy Child Care America Campaign and is
sponsored by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services in
partnership with the American Academy of Pediatrics. The campaign is
based on the principle that families and child care providers can
promote the healthy development of young children in child care, and
increase access to preventive health care services, and safe physical
environments for children.
Child Care Health
Consultants (Registered nurses) (CCHC) are available in every county
across the state to assist child care providers with general health and
safety issues. CCHCs can provide information to providers from diabetes and asthma
to consultation on children’s immunization records and licensing
compliance reports. The nurses
will not provide recommendations or specific care plans for children
with special health care plans but can provide information on how a
family can obtain health insurance, if applicable, and how to locate
pediatric services.
